New Hampshire offers visitors the opportunity to explore a varied landscape, rich in the hallmarks of Scenic New England.
The valley is a gateway to the 780,000 acre White Mountain National Forest with 1,200 miles of hiking trails and 700 miles of cycle paths. Waterfalls are a frequent sight thanks to the terrain. Another unique attraction is the wealth of historic covered bridges and over 50 of these can be found throughout the countryside. Along the way, white clapboard houses and churches stand prominently over delightful village greens.
Jackson and North Conway are scenic gateway villages to the many attractions of the Mount Washington Valley. North Conway is the region’s liveliest town and has become a major shopping destination with scores of factory outlet stores as well as one–of–a–kind shops. A train ride aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad provides an unusually pleasant way to view the splendour of this magnificent mountain region through the spectacular Crawford Notch.
The Lakes Region is another aspect of the state’s natural appeal with the centrepiece Lake Winnipesaukee, one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in the United States, and Squam Lake which became known as Golden Pond ever since the movie of the same name was filmed here. The historic city of Portsmouth, one of the original Pilgrim settlements, sits at the centre of the region's charming coastline.
Elsewhere in Southern New Hampshire, explore Concord a delightful walkable city and Canterbury Shaker Village.
